ZTE, Cell of South Africa Ink US$378 Mln GSM/UMTS Contract

Chinese telecom solution provider ZTE and South African mobile telecom operator Cell have inked an agreement for network equipment supply and managed services, according to a January 27 China Securities Journal report. The deal is valued at US$378 million and is expected to be executed over a period of three years. As per the agreement, ZTE will provide GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications)/UTMS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) network turn-key solutions and operation-related services to Cell, the first GSM 900M/1800M dual-mode network operator in South Africa.
